Garnier B.B. Cream Review

So i finally got around to trying out Garnier’s new so called ‘miracle’ B.B. Cream.

It sold out within a day of launching on Superdrug’s website and twitter was buzzing with people talking about it, trying to get their hands on it and asking questions about it.

The day after it launched i excitedly  hopped over to superdug and bought the Miracle Skin Perfector in Light.

Garniers Miracle Skin Perfector is Inspired by the latest Asian skincare sensation- B.B. creams, or Blemish Balms to give them their full name (Took me ages to work out what the B.B stood for!)
The cream comes in two shaded, light and medium and claims to be;

An all in one skincare solution that immediately perfects your skin. The light, non-greasy formula gives an even skin tone with a healthy glow, blurs imperfections and redness, smoothes the appearance of fine lines, hydrates for 24 hours and helps protect with SPF 15.

I can see why people were excited about this product with all those claims!

The Results:

Before (No Make Up)

I was actually quite disappointed with this product.

For a cream that is meant to be light and non greasy, i found it both heavy and greasy.

That said i do tend to have quite oily skin, so on someone with dry/ extra dry skin the cream may well be perfect.

I bought the Light shade but found that this was a little too dark for my skin and i found myself worrying about the dreaded tide mark on my neck showing!

You can see from the photo on the left that the result of wearing the cream alone left my with a more even tone and healthy glow, but it also left my skin feeling and looking rather greasy.

To combat this i tried applying my MAC Blot Powder in Medium over the top to take the shine off (see left photo)- which worked, but i was left feeling a little like i had caked my make up on, which somewhat defeated the idea of a  light, tinted moisturising esq product.

Perhaps after using it long term i would be able to get on better with it, but i just found it too heavy and oily for my skin. Sorry Garnier!

You can try it for yourself for £9.99 from Superdrug.

  1. That's the bad thing about hugely hyped products - you can never guarantee they'll be great. Thanks for letting us know because I won't bother trying this out!

  5. I tried it in store and didn't buy it, it made no difference to my skin! It was a let down, but it was the first one of its kind in the uk.

  7. I also reviewed it but on the day it was released and I too found it too dark for my pale skin, the light is more a medium and the medium looked like a dark to me. I'm still going to use up the product but I don't know if I'd buy it again. I think the formulation needs to be less thick and the colour a shade or even two shades lighter for the light version. I love my Skin79 BB Cream and I wish it was easier to get because I'm getting it sent from Korea it takes somewhere between 3-6 weeks and costs a lot more. Be aware of fake BB Creams out there. Do some research on what to look for in authentic BB creams before you buy online, Ebay is rife with counterfeit BB Creams and they overcharge and you don't know what the real products are in their creams.

  9. So THAT'S what 'B.B' stands for! I keep hearing about it, but I had no idea what on earth it stood for!
Oh dear, it's a shame it's not as good as is made out, it definitely does make your face look a little greasy, which is not a good thing - although once the MAC powder is applied the greasiness goes!
On a different note, you have wonderful eyebrows! (Is that a weird compliment?) xx

  13. I am not particularly fond of BB creams because I have oily skin. I once bought a foundation and a concealer that had a matte finish. It was a disaster! It started flaking on my face at the middle of the day. So yeah, I'm still on the quest of looking for the perfect foundation/makeup base product for my oily skin.

  14. Is the bb cream you swatched on your hand just a swatch or did you use all that on your face?
if you did, then try using less, bb creams your only meant to use a tiny pea size amount and dot it all over your face focusing on areas where you need it the most, and use patting motions on your face blending it from the centre of the face.
this should decrease the heaviness and greasiness, as BB creams if you keep building it on the more oily your face will get and will have a masking effect, therefore you only need a tiny tiny amount.

  15. I think it gives your skin a beautiful 'glow' rather than making it look oily. Despite some of the negative reviews I have read I think I am still going to give it a try, I will also use May's application tips. I think I will try it in the light shade as everyone seems to agree that it is more of a medium colour. Thanks for a fab review. Jude xx @jadlgw

  16. I got 2 of these yesterday (one for me and one for my mum) light for my pale skin and medium for my mums more tanned indian skin tone and we both really like it. I suffer with dry skin at times that is dull and uneven in tone and my mum has alot of redness and we both found it covered well. I used abit of my revlon photoready concealer and then applied this ontop and I was really impressed. I usually wear full coverage foundation but I would be happy to leave the house wearing just this. It gave more coverage than I expected and first time I used it I squeezed out to much as I didn't realise how pigmented it was. It isn't my first BB cream but as far as finish goes it's my favourite. I guess it depends on your skin tone/type and what you expect from it! I think it offers more coverage than most tinted moisturisers which for me is a thumbs up!

  18. If you want the real deal, then you need to get it from Korea. BB cream has been incredibly popular in Asia for a few years already, so they've got quite a bit of experience behind it. I personally think brands like MISSHA and Etude House from Korea would be much better than Garnier’s one... Hanskin, Skin79 and BRTC are pretty popular too, but MISSHA is apparently the best.

  19. My skin is really dry after a course of accutane for past acne. Ive just finished the course so i dont want to ruin my new clear skin by wearing heaps of make up.

I found this cream perfect. I love it. But I definitely agree that if you have oily skin, it would feel awful.

  21. I think you look better in the before pic, you`ve lovely rosy cheeks and it hides them. I've tried a sample size of the BB cream and wasn't too impressed either, just a over hyped tinted moisturiser really

  22. I've tried it and it could be alot lighter for my skin tone. Like you said I also dread the line from my face to my neck. I've caved in an ordered from korea for around the same price.

  23. I tried a sample from a magazine insert and I actually liked it. I put a very light moisturizer first, then the BB cream and a very light foundation - EL's new Idealist foundation (I think that's the name) and followed it up with a light dusting of Clinique translucent powder. My face looked smooth and clear , not dry or patchy. I have combo skin and I would definitely purchase this product.

  24. I tried this for three days and coverage was good, but after third day my skin started breaking out in cystic acne and I haven't broken out like that in years! It was the only thing I had changed in my skincare regimen. I didn't like the overbearing fragrance. My skin is aging, sensitive and acne-prone. Am wondering if the fragrance made it break out so bad.

  26. Overall, kind of satisfied with the result. For some strange reason, the skin on the sides of my face turn orange when putting this or any other foundation on. I'm wondering if there are any anti-oxidized foundations out there? Also this BB cream made my face look too rosy and shiny. I tend to have an oil problem as well as acne pigmented scars, (looking into getting a chemical peel). I did like the fresh/moisturized feeling it gave my face though!:)
